Veritas Review
Nottingham outfit with friends in high places...
Not to be confused with the ’70s Irish duo of the same name, this six-piece indie outfit hail from Nottingham and are managed by the former England football international Dion Dublin. The connection has done them no harm it seems; they’re regular guests on sports radio and TV and even made a live appearance at the 2011 English Cup Final!
They’ve also been touring all over the UK with the likes of Status Quo, Starsailor, Cast, Toploader and Ocean Colour Scene and others, building a following. Ocean Colour Scene and Paul Weller guitarist Steve Craddock was so impressed that he agreed to produce their debut album. The tunes are, for the most part, catchy, hook-laden and replete with harmonies and good-time rhythms. If Huey Lewis and The News were from the north of England, they’d probably sound something like The Establishment.
Single ‘Jennifer Jones’ is a nostalgic look back at schoolboy crushes while ‘Hung Up On Jacqueline’ and ‘Waiting For The Girl’ mine a similar lyrical seam. ‘All Over Again’ sounds a lot like ‘Heavenly Day’ the summery sunshine hit from Picturehouse; ‘Hope Tomorrow’ recalls Del Amitri. Closer ‘Just
For Now’ brings to mind Sad Café’s huge hit ‘Everyday Hurts’.
Key Track: 'Jennifer Jones'
