Turnstile share statement about arrest of ex-guitarist for attempted murder
"Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further. … We have no language left for Brady."
Turnstile have shared a statement about the arrest of their ex-guitarist Brady Ebert for attempted murder.
On Thursday, April 4, news broke that Ebert had been arrested on Wednesday for charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault.
Reportedly, investigators described the victim as a "78-year-old neighbour," whom the band identified as William Yates, the father of Brendan Yates, Turnstile's lead singer and co-founder. Allegedly, he intentionally struck him with a car. Due to severe physical trauma, Yates' father had to undergo surgery.
On April 2, Turnstile released a statement via Rolling Stone, saying: "We're hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery."
The band cut ties with Ebert in 2022 due to a consistent pattern of "harmful behaviour affecting himself, the band, and the community," according to the statement.
"In the years since, his baseless tirades have continued in public. We never addressed it. We chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure, even when he did nothing to be deserving of that protection. Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further. … We have no language left for Brady."
Earlier this year, Ebert criticised his former band after they condemned ICE on social media, claiming they only pretend to care about social issues.
He wrote on Instagram: "No one in Turnstile cares at all about ethics or social issues in general, they're just pandering to their audience."
Shortly after these comments, he was fired by his new band The S.E.T., who said on social media: "Brady is no longer a member of The S.E.T. We will not stand by his ridiculous comments and behaviour toward the members of our band and our community."
Ebert's preliminary hearing is set for May 1 in Montgomery County District Court. No information about his bail/bond review hearing, which took place on Thursday, April 2, has been shared yet.
