Trinidadian & Malian stars confirmed for Festival of World Cultures
This year's event is taking place in July.
The Festival of World Cultures celebrates its 10th anniversary by luring Trinidadian legend Calypso Rose and rising Malian star Rokia Traoré to Ireland for the first time.
Rose – real name McArtha Lewis – has over 20 albums to her name while Traoré’s mix of rockabilly, jazz and classical stylings has made her the darling of the World Music set.
In a break with tradition, this year’s bash will be staged between July 23 and 25, which is a month earlier than usual.
Also confirmed for the Dun Laoghaire weekender is award-winning composer Pól Brennan who’ll be playing a veritable United Nations of a gig in The Pavilion Theatre with Chinese flautist Guo Yue, Kenyan nyantiti player Ayub Ogada and contemporary Irish folk singer Tara Byrne.
The full line-up of acts will be announced on June 17.
