Travis pay homage to Rodrigo y Gabriela
Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela gained a celeb fan or two when they (finally) made it over to the States.
The Irish residents, who were denied entry to the US when Rodrigo Sanchez was bizarrely mistaken for a criminal who had the same name, were eventually able to play choice dates around America, culminating a special KCRW gig on Saturday 14 April.
They showcased their wares alongside Lily Allen, Cold War Kids, Breakestra, Bittersweet and Travis - but left frontman Fran Healy quaking at the prospect of following their performance.
“No, no, no," the Scotsman is reported to have whimpered. "There’s no way we can follow that. The thing is, you don’t get that often these days. The Mexicans, they’re much more raw than we are.”
Still, they managed to hold their own, previewing material from their forthcoming album The Boy With No Name. Irish fans can get a taster too when they play the Tripod, Dublin (26 April) and the Waterfront Hall, Belfast (27).
