The Mission: Tower Of Strength (Vertigo)

Never one of my favourite bands, The Mission have always seemed to me contrived and constipated but I actually like this in a sort of second-hand way. With John Paul Jones producing, it may be apeing Led Zep at their most Indian when Jimmy Page took his tunings from Ravi Shankar but the combination of dour vocals with an unexpected rhythmic fluency is fetching enough.
