The singer-songwriter's latest single was inspired by Sinéad O'Connor.
Tolü Makay has shared a new single 'WAR'.
Marking her first release this year, the Irish-Nigerian artist's haunting new track offers up a cry of resistance against fear, silence, and self-doubt.
"'WAR' began as a poem," said Makay. "I had just returned from a gathering at the London Irish Centre, where women shared stories of how Sinéad O’Connor gave voice to the voiceless, often at great personal cost. That night, overwhelmed by emotion and collective grief, I found myself reflecting deeply."
"The poem evolved into a song about the internal battles we face," added the singer. "'WAR' is a reclamation of power. A whisper that can be heard over an army. It’s for those who feel small, but know they must speak first for themselves, and eventually for others. This song is my first step."
The single comes ahead of Makay's new EP, set for release later this year. According to a statement, the new record will explore "resilience during life’s brightest seasons, when public joy masks private pain." The project's title, tracklist and official release date are yet to be disclosed.

She will also perform at the National Concert Hall's Festival of Voice on June 27, alongside Iarla Ó Lionáird, Eimear Quinn, and the National Symphony Orchestra.
