The Revellions - Give It Time
Revellions comeback record rocks
Half a decade ago, Dublin’s The Revellions released their self-titled debut to glowing reviews. The album seemed destined to mark the beginning of big things for the garage rock outfit. However, after in-band bust-ups, record label wrangles and an aborted attempt at making an LP in Spain as a five-piece, they lost momentum.
Sonically, their second effort is basically split into two halves. ‘Side A’ is a soulful, blues- rock riot with ‘Sighs’, ‘Bitter & Twisted’ and brass-heavy album highlight ‘Don’t Wait For Me’ all sounding absolutely heroic; ‘Side B’ is a moodier collection of murder ballads, which hits its peak with the haunting cowpunk-tinged ‘Strung Out Bad’. While they stumble a little on the direction-less instrumental ‘The Waltz’, Give It Time is a strong offering from the reborn band.
