MICHAEL BALL: “The Lovers We Were” (EMI)
The Geek With The Perpetual Smile is back. This is in fact a heart-breakingly sad song, but having seen this guy’s TV shows, I’ve no doubt he was singing it with that wholesome smile of his. Michael Ball is an agreeable enough chap, perfectly suited to this kind of showbizzy material, but I doubt if he has inner sadistic impulses or hellhounds on his trail. By definition, anybody who is reading this magazine is obviously inclined against the idea of buying this record, and I’m certainly not going to try and change your minds.
