The Festival of World Cultures a huge success
Even Sinead O'Connor came out to play at the Dun Laoghaire festivities over the weekend
The Festival of World Cultures in Dun Laoghaire over the weekend was an outstanding success. Crowds in excess of 1,000 enjoyed free open air gigs from Paddy Casey and Damien Dempsey.
Other highlights included Moya Brennan and Iarla Ó Lionáird performing in the spectacular setting of Monkstown Church and scores of international acts such as The Dhol Foundation and The Camut Band. Now in its third year, over fifty acts played the festival in twenty six venues in and around Dun Laoghaire town.
Local girl Sinead O'Connor joined Damien Dempsey for a rousing rendition of his new single 'Its All Good', which would be the first time in recent memory that Sinead has sang in her hometown. Other pleasant surprises for festival goers included an improvised jam from members of Asian Dub Foundation and Fundamental.
