The Carlow Arts Festival takes place this week
The Carlow Arts Festival gets underway this afternoon in Carlow town and lasts until June. This year, the event celebrates its 38th year of bringing the best in visual art, theatre, music and dance.
Filled with striking free performances, live music, visual arts and family friendly events, the festival allows people from all walks of life to come together to engage in the arts.
This year highlights include RTE Choice Music Prize winners and Limerick hip-hop trio Rusangano Family giving a performance on June 9, with support from Emmet Kirwan. As well as this, four-piece rhythm and blues band The Strypes will take to the stage on Saturday, with a special guest appearance from Exiles.
The urban-street funk band Stomptown Brass will also be performing on Sunday, supported by the Berlin-based soulful singer Sarah O’Gorman,
Opera fans can also expect to be blown away by Philip Glass’s epic opera Einstein on The Beach, which hits the big screen at the G.B. Shaw Theatre.
The week-long festival will be wrapped up by a unique performance of Ireland’s contemporary music group Crash Ensemble at the ruins of the gothic revivalist Duckett’s Grove at dusk.
