The Beach Boys' abandoned album Adult/Child set to be released after 5O years
‘We Gotta Groove’ (2025 mix) has been released on all streaming platforms.
After a 50-year wait, The Beach Boys are finally set to release their lost experimental album, Adult/Child.
The band announced the We Gotta Groove: The Brother Studio box set, slated for release on February 13. The box set will feature 73 songs, including 35 previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1976 and 1977. Along with the album Adult/Child, the set is also accompanied by a 40-page booklet containing new and archival interviews with members of The Beach Boys and the Brother Studio engineer team.
Along with the announcement of the box set, the single 'We Gotta Groove' (2025 mix) has been officially released on all streaming platforms.
Following a nervous breakdown, Brian Wilson initially stopped touring in 1964. He continued to focus entirely on writing and producing for the band, though his active involvement became sporadic toward the late 1960s. After a period of seclusion, Wilson returned to both recording and performing in 1976.
He subsequently led the creation of the album The Beach Boys Love You and started working on Adult/Child, which was planned as the next album. However, reportedly due to pressure from their record label, the band shelved Adult/Child following the commercial disappointment of The Beach Boys Love You. They instead released the M.I.U Album in 1978, an easy listening record that contrasted sharply with Wilson's more experimental style.
Adult/Child has since been widely bootlegged and leaked, making its official release a highly anticipated event for Beach Boys fans.
The box set was co-produced by mixing engineer James Sáez and Beach Boys touring member Billy Hinsche, alongside Brian Wilson, who contributed vocals and all other instrumental parts before his death, in June 2025.
