Terry Hall's Laugh to be reissued in deluxe edition
28 years after its original release, Laugh will return with new tracks and visual content.
Dinked Editions has announced that Laugh, the second solo album from the late British singer Terry Hall, will be reissued in deluxe versions on September 19.
The deluxe edition of Laugh will be available as a double vinyl set and as a two CD gatefold set. These packages will feature imagery pulled from recently discovered photographs from the original album's photoshoot, taken by BAFTA-nominated photographer Elaine Constantine.
The sets will also include liner notes by journalist and author Pete Paphides, former chief rock critic of The Times, as well as writings by Blur lyricist and Gorillaz creator Damon Albarn, English producer and musician lan Broudie and Duran Duran singer Stephen Duffy.
Laugh was originally released in October 1997 via Southsea Bubble Company, following up Hall's debut record Home. Terry co-wrote the album with Craig Gannon, former Smiths guitarist, and included contributions from Albarn, Duffy and Sean O'Hagan.
Hall rose to fame while lead singer of pioneering ska band The Specials in the 1980s, and their reunion in 2019 saw their album Encore debut at number one on UK charts, the band's most commercially successful album. Hot Press interviewed Hall in 2007, and he said the influence that The Specials had on other acts was a meaningful part of their legacy.
"It’s fantastic," Hall said.
"That’s probably the most rewarding thing, when you meet people whose music you like and they cite you as an influence. It’s brilliant."
After his passing in December 2022, tributes poured in from those he influenced and those who admired him.
Laugh remains Hall's most successful solo album, peaking at 50th on UK albums charts. It includes the track 'Ballad Of A Landlord', which hit 50th on UK singles charts.
Over the latter part of his career, Hall collaborated with the likes of Sinéad O'Connor, Bananarama, The Lightning Seeds, Shakespears Sister and more. The new edition of Laugh will include Hall's covers of hits like 'Working Class Hero' by John Lennon, 'Close To You' by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and 'Music To Watch Girls By' by Bob Crewe.
The deluxe edition of Laugh is available for pre-order now.
