Streaming: First Tidal Numbers and SoundCloud Go Release
As music streaming continues to grow, Hot Press examines Tidal’s first subscriber numbers and SoundCloud’s new subscription plan
Year-old music streaming service, Tidal, releases first subscription numbers while SoundCloud announces their new music streaming subscription service.
On March 30th, 2015, Kanye West and Jay Z launched Tidal, a music streaming service that boosts improved music quality. According to Billboard, Tidal claims to have surpassed three million paid subscribers globally.
Still, this number sits smaller in contrast to Verge’s reported 30 million subscribers to Spotify Premium.
SoundCloud Go announced its launch today; its streaming service appears to be very similar to Spotify but with less paid music. SoundCloud Go has always had an emphasis on user created content and the subscription service gives users the opportunity to listen to said music while offline.
Whether SoundCloud Go’s strategy to profit off the individual content will be revealed by the streaming numbers over time.
