Storyfold 'It’s Later Than You Think' - Album Review
RADIO FRIENDLY AND THEN SOME
It took more than three years for Storyfold to record and release a follow-up to their promising debut Rocket Science. But the wait is worthwhile: It’s Later Than You Think might just be the launchpad the band were looking for.
The key strength of the hugely engaging Dublin five-piece is in their mastery of unabashed, honest-to-goodness pop songs – built around the one-two punch of vocalists Paddy McKenna and Lindsey Hogan.
Opener ‘The Lost And The Lonely’ is a chunky anthem; closer ‘Running Out Of Light’ a slow-burning epic. Between those highly impressive bookends, the album keeps the standard high, via the melancholic ‘Michael’ and the energetic standout, ‘Dynamo’.
The LP isn’t without blemish: ‘The End Of Youth’ feels ponderous and ‘Perfect 10’ is more rockabilly than rock’n’roll. It matters little, though: close to half a dozen songs would sit happily on radio playlists anywhere.
OUT NOW.
