Squirt/Fukdat
Johnny Moy: Squirt/Fukdat (Red)
Johnny Moy: Squirt/Fukdat (Red); Rotator: Children of the Night/Intercourse (Red)
Two tracks on which Bray’s dance label doesn’t find its own identifiable sound. Moy offers two tracks of skeletal funk, steel wheels as plastic, not so much “Have you no Holmes to go to” as “Rather too elementary, my dear Watson.” Of the Rotator pairing, David Lynch builds logically his designer environment through spangled, spanking cymbals and a whooshing, spiralling wind of keyboards to screams in the house. Partner, Gary Irwin then makes Gothic his ‘Intercourse’ but somewhere loses the thread of the rhythms. Conclusion : Red can’t be the only colour; this label must paint new sounds
