The singer also has a new album on the way.
Sineadoconnor.com has just revealed some very good news.
“We who run this site are very happy to announce the marriage of Steve Cooney and Sinéad O'Connor has taken place this morning,” reads the official statement. “Thanks be to the Great Lord Jah. Rastafarai. Dread I. Conquering Lion I. One love.”
For those not in the trad know, Cooney is an Australian of Irish ancestry who’s been living here for many years. He was a member of Stockton’s Wing with whom he played bass and didgeridoo (and what a didgeridoo player he is too!)
He then forged a highly successful partnership with Seamus Begley as Cooney & Begley, launched the FACE music advisory body and for the past four years has handled guitar chores in Sinéad’s recording and touring band.
Prior to getting hitched, Sinéad updated fans as to how she’s getting on with her new album.
“I’m really excited by the outcome so far,” she enthuses. “I was recording with John Reynolds in London and I love working with him because he always seems to be the best at recording my voice. There’s still lots of work to be done on the tracks but everything looks on course for it to come out sometime early next year. It’s a real mixture of material – electric, acoustic, soft vocals, tough vocals, beats, atmosphere, rawness, all that stuff combined together. Who knows, we might get some other artists in to do some bits and pieces, collaborations, on some of the songs. Anything is possible!”
