Seth Lakeman - Word Of Mouth
Traditional English folkster continues to lead the pack
Recorded in a church in Cornwall, Word Of Mouth is the latest studio offering from Devon multi-instrumentalist Seth Lakeman. Steeped in both old and new folk values, the album finds the singer telling the stories of people he’s met on the road over the years (the bonus disc features interviews with the individuals who inspired the tracks) and boasts bigger soundscapes than we’ve heard from him in the past.
The spaghetti western-flavoured ‘The Wanderer’ and the percussive, country-tinged ‘Last Rider’ are highlights. The material also benefits from his decision to go for a full-on, live band feel. I like it.
