Scottish fans react with humour, anger and Simpsons memes to Green Day gig cancellation
Green Day's cancellation due to "unsafe" weather conditions provokes Twitter storm
Green Day's cancellation of a gig at Glasgow's Bellahouston Park hours before they were scheduled to appear has caused consternation among fans on Twitter.
In a statement, the band said "the local safety council, production crew, and concert organisers have deemed the stage unsafe for the fans and everyone involved".
They reassured the fans that they have played in adverse weather throughout the European tour, and "don't care if its raining fucking sideways", but that safety of all involved was "always our top priority".
Twitter reaction ranged from the Simpsons-referencing:
Green day managed on a plank of wood in the simpsons movie but not on a wet field in Glasgow?

Some fans criticised the cancellation, saying that the weather was not severe:
Just on the bus to Glasgow, found out Green Day gig is cancelled because of the weather. I've had heavier streams of piss than this rain
— Chris Donlevy (@chrisdonlevy91) July 4, 2017
...while others were more nuanced:
Venue- fails health and safety standards

Meanwhile, one tweeter claimed that the event staff were not getting paid as a result:
Get this shared - the hundreds of staff who've been working at/on the Green Day gig in Glasgow have been told they are not getting paid.

Green Day have promised to return to Glasgow at some point, and their support act Slaves have organised a make-up gig at Glasgow's O2 ABC venue.
