Sam Smith confirmed to sing new Bond theme
'Writing's On The Wall' drops on September 25.
It’s been one of Planet Pop’s worst kept secrets but Gavin James’ touring mate Sam Smith has officially been confirmed as the singer of the new James Bond theme.
"This is one of the highlights of my career,” says Smith fresh from his Electric Picnic appearance at the weekend. “I’m so relieved to actually talk about this, this has been a top secret mission of my own.
"I got called into the office with Barbara Broccoli and Sam Mendes and they gave me the script, I read the script… they said: ‘Have a go at the song.’”
‘Writing’s On The Wall’ will be released on September 25, with Daniel Craig returning as 007 in Spectre on October 26.
“Sam and Jimmy Napes have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time,” enthuse Barbara Broccoli and her co-producer Michael G. Wilson in a statement.
