Rodrigo y Gabriella announce 20th anniversary vinyl
Rodrigo y Gabriela (20th Anniversary Edition) + Re-Foc will arrive via Rubyworks Records on May 1.
Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriella have announced a 20th anniversary vinyl edition of their self-titled debut album, set for release on May 1.
The 2xLP includes a new edition of the original album, alongside the GRAMMY award-winning duo’s 2002 debut recording Re-Foc, to be released on vinyl for the first time.
Co-produced with British producer John Leckie, known for his work with Radiohead, The Stone Roses, XTC, and My Morning Jacket, the album Rodrigo y Gabriela debuted at #1 in Ireland. It features a total of nine songs, including 'Tamacún', used in the pilot episode of Breaking Bad.
Following their 2006 record, the band have released a number of albums, including 2009's 11:11, 2012's Area 52, 2014's 9 Dead Alive, 2019's Grammy-winning Mettavolution, and 2023's In Between Thoughts… A New World.
Now based in Mexico City, the duo began their career in Dublin. Known for their mixture of rock, metal, flamenco and acoustic, they signed to independent Irish label Rubyworks.
In a 2023 interview with Hot Press, Gabriella shared: "We lived there for 10 years, so Ireland is like our second home".
"There’s a very Irish part of us still," she added. “We were probably Irish in a past life!”
At the end of last year, Rodrigo y Gabriella also announced a run of Irish shows in celebration of the anniversary, set to take place at Dublin's National Stadium on May 25, Limerick's Dolan Warehouse on May 26, and Cork's Cyprus Avenue on May 27.
You can pre-order the record here.
