Liffey Light Orchestra announce new album Ana Livia
In July of last year, they released their latest record, Jigs and Other Stories, which Hot Press described as "a delightful potpourri of Irish trad, folk, jazz and progressive rock instrumentals."
Dublin-based musical group the Liffey Light Orchestra have announced a new studio album, Ana Livia, out November 1 via Legal Records.
This marks their fifth studio album - mixing Irish traditional, folk and progressive rock influences.
Musicians featured include Anto Drennan on electric guitar, Michael Buckley on flute and soprano saxophone, John McCullough on flute, David Agnew on oboe, Robbie Harris on bodhrán, shaker and bongos, Mick O'Brien on uilleann pipes and whistles, Philip Begley on piano and drums and Paul Egan on piano, synthesisers and guitar.
It sees two suites of interconnecting or related pieces - 'Ana Livia' and 'Poulaphouca' - along with a set of distinct tracks.
In July of last year, they released their latest record, Jigs and Other Stories, which Hot Press described as "a delightful potpourri of Irish trad, folk, jazz and progressive rock instrumentals, sprinkled over a generous 18 tracks, with Egan's compositional dexterity well to the fore."
The Liffey Light Orchestra grew out of the theatre pit band at Dublin University Players, the drama society at Trinity College Dublin.
It became a Mike Oldfield and Jean-Michel Jarre tribute band, being among the first bands to perform Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells' and Jarre's 'Oxygene', and the first to perform Oldfield's 'Ommadawn'.
In 2011, they released their first studio album, Filaments. This was followed by Le French Album in 2017 and Lekeila in 2020, which was rated in the top 20 folk albums of that year by Hot Press.
