Jimmy MacCarthy gig at National Concert Hall rescheduled due to strike
Due to a strike on the original date, the show will take place one day earlier. Full refunds will be granted to those unable to attend.
Jimmy MacCarthy's National Concert Hall show, The Song of the Singing Horseman, has been pushed forward to October 13. This is due to a nationwide industrial strike on the originally planned date, October 14.
The show will be on at 8 p.m. Ticketholders unable to attend due to the rescheduling are eligible for a full refund until noon on October 12.
The Song of the Singing Horseman is also on at the National Concert Hall on October 22. This later show is not affected by the strike.
MacCarthy is a renowned songwriter from County Cork, known for 'Ride On', 'No Frontiers', and 'Mystic Lipstick', among others. His songs have been performed by Christy Moore, Mary Black, Mary Coughlan, Maura O’Connell and The Corrs.
The show takes its name from the 1991 album, one of his four solo albums. He recently spoke toHot Press about his touring and the re-release of his albums.
MacCarthy will perform with his band, The Acoustic Horsemen. The show will feature Nollaig Casey and string quartet performing arrangements by herself and Bill Whelan, along with special guest musicians including Steve Cooney, James Blennerhassett and Paul McAteer.
Public sector workers will be striking on October 14 as part of ongoing industrial action demanding a new pay deal.
Trade union Fórsa's national secretary Ryan McKinney said, “Fórsa members have voted overwhelmingly to act because Government has failed to engage seriously on a pay offer that addresses the pressures faced by public service workers. They did not take the decision to engage in industrial action lightly. [...]
“The responsibility now rests with Government to come forward with a credible proposal capable of resolving this dispute and avoiding disruption across public services”.
