Robbie Williams announces Aviva Stadium gig for mid-2017
The Heavy Entertainment Show paves its way for a summer tour date
Robbie Williams has today announced that he will be performing at Aviva Stadium on June 17 next year. When asked if he wanted to add more dates, he said “Yes, please. We’ll see how it goes.”
The announcement came at a press conference at the Intercontinental Hotel a short time ago, as the ‘Rock DJ’ singer prepares to go on The Late Late Show this evening. Nearly every major Irish news outlet filled the room as Williams’s music videos resounded from three TV screens.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Williams only had kind words for the Irish. He said that the Phoenix Park performance in 2003 had so many people that he thought he'd attracted a bigger audience than the Pope! He also mentioned that the highlight of his career was his first gig back in 1998 at the Slane festival in County Meath.
Commenting on his upcoming eleventh studio album The Heavy Entertainment Show, Williams says, "Light entertainment is seen as a negative show. Morecombe and Wise are dismissed as 'light entertainment'. And yet that's all I ever wanted to be is an entertainer. So the album title is about trying to Change that meaning." The album will be available on November 4.
More big news was announced when Mr. Williams confirmed a duet with singer, Kyle Minogue called 'Disco Symphony.'
When asked about why he keeps singing, he talked about his time in rehab in 2006 and said that he couldn't stand retirement so he "got back on the wobbly bike" and went back to being an entertainer in 2009. "It's in my DNA," he said.
The singer last played in Ireland back in 2013 in a memorable performance at The Aviva Stadium after the release of his studio album Take The Crown. ‘Let Me Entertain You,’ ‘Sexed Up’ and ‘Bodies’ were among performance set list.
Williams will bring his family on tour with him to Europe in the summer as part of his “The Heavy Entertainment Show” tour. Exact dates and cities to be announced November 7.
Tickets will be made available on November 11 at 10am via RobbieWilliams.com.
