RIP Jerry Leiber
The co-writer of a number of Elvis's biggest songs has passed away
Sad news has filtered through this morning that US songwriter Jerry Leiber has died at the age of 78. He passed away on Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA after suffering cardiopulmonary failure.
Leiber was best known for his writing partnership with Mike Stoller, which set the template for so much of the rock 'n' roll of the late '50s/early '60s. The duo were inducted into the Rock And Roll hall Of Fame in 1987 for their masssive contribution to music.
Some of their biggest hits included the Coasters' 'Yakety Yak', the Drifters' 'Ruby Baby' and, most famously, several Elvis presley songs, such as 'Hound Dog' and 'Jailhouse Rock'.
