RIP Bert Jansch
The legend of Scottish folk has passed away.
Sad news has just come in that Bert Jansch has lost his long battle with cancer. The founding member of Pentangle and pivotal player in the Briitish folk musical revival of the 1960s has died at the age of 67.
Jansch was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009, but was still able to co-headline a US tour with Neil Young last year.
His distinctive guitar sound was a massive influence on a host of major musical names, Nick Drake, Donovan, Johnny Marr, Bernard Butler and Graham Coxon amongst them.
Our own James Vincent McMorrow has tweeted his condolences:
"RIP Bert Jansch. devastated about this, had the honour of playing with him and Joanna Newsom in June, one of my real musical heroes."
As Jansch himself commented last year: "I'm not one for showing off but I guess my guitar-playing sticks out."
Let's reacquaint ourselves with it then, in memory of the great man…
