Review: Jägermeister Freezer Sessions, Galway
All the action from night two as the Freezer Sessions took over Monroe's Live...
The second leg kick-off saw Preachers Son open with the gritty, almost incendiary ‘Lead’ and continue to deliver their unique range of thumping riffs and deep melodic vocals throughout the set.
Exchanging jokes between songs, the band clearly enjoyed themselves and the vibe proved infectious as they teased out the first dancers of the night. Next up, Raglans arrive on stage direct from the Cork leg of the Sessions. Clad in plaid shirts and exuberant smiles, they flawlessly weave their sincere, melodic harmonies with tuneful mandolin riffs and determined, driving beats. Dexterously catchy; their pumped-up folk reaches a jubilant zenith before The Hot Sprockets – who had completed the N20 ‘Freezer’ convoy from Cork – shifted the crowd up a gear.
The effortlessly charismatic rock ‘n’ roll quintet enjoyed a hysterically full dance floor as they thrashed out their manic bluesy riffs and three-part harmonies. The driving ‘Soul Brother’ delivers yet again as fans determinedly chant the chorus. Almost aggressively energetic, the Sprockets burst through their upbeat set without seeming to take a breath and the Galway crowd respond emphatically.
The seductive tones of O Emperor close proceedings, providing a more mellow contrast. Opening with some almost psychedelic synth sounds and plenty of distorted beats, they settle into brooding harmonies and subtle melodic guitar. The perfect mix of innocuous jovial pop and intriguing allure, the Waterford act keep the crowd transfixed.
Galway, we salute you! A packed Monroe's Live, four superb acts and countless homegrown rock ‘n’ roll moments. The Jägermeister Freezer Sessions tour continues with loads more bands in a venue near you. See [link]hotpress.com/thefreezersessions[/link] to grab your tickets...
