Rattle and hum

The wonderful – but extremely quiet – Boa Morte open their account with the release of Soon It Will Come Time To Face The World Outside.

Having done all the recording themselves, the Cork trio sent a copy to Teenage Fanclub drummer Francis McDonald who promptly co-opted it onto his Shoeshine label.

"Francis played the album in a studio during a break whilst he was recording with Teenage Fanclub," enthuses bassist Cormac Gahan. "Both he and Norman Blake were impressed with the quality of the material – we got a call from Francis the next day. Good news because we're all fans of Teenage Club."

Having been around in one form or other for a few years, they nonetheless have kept relatively quiet, becoming - while seldom playing live - one of the better-kept secrets in Irish music.
