Prince's music will return to streaming services this weekend
Prince's back catalogue returns to Spotify, Apple Music, Other Streaming Services this Sunday, in tandem with the Grammy Awards ceremony.
Following rumours and marketing campaigns which suggested that Prince's music would be making its way from the exclusivity of Tidal to other streaming services, Warner Bros. confirmed in late January that they have struck a deal to bring his music to Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, and other prominent streaming platforms.
This means that classic albums like Purple Rain, Dirty Mind and 1999 will be on Spotify after February 12.
Prince had previously pulled all of his music from streaming services back in 2015 — with the exception of Tidal, the Jay Z-led company that has pledged friendlier terms to musicians. Prince, who had contentious relationships with music labels, distributors and internet companies, had personally promoted Tidal including in the days just before his death.
Prince — along with pop-star George Michael, who died on Christmas Day last year — will be honoured with a special tribute at the Grammys.
