Unsigned Dublin guitar merchants Brando have split, says frontman Elton Mullally.
"About a month ago Brian (Joyce, guitar and backing vocals) informed us that he had had enough of being in the band, and that he was quitting," says Elton, in a statement.
"We have been together for 6 years, a long time by any band's standards. I always thought we were a very good band with better to come. We all played very well (especially Brian), sang well and had a bunch of good songs we believed in.
"Self-belief, ambition, confidence, perseverance and loyalty are all essential ingredients in keeping a band's heart beating. Brian informed us that he no longer felt these with Brando and felt the need to move on. I'm still in shock and sad that we are finished. We could continue, but for now it doesn't feel right."
Brando are one of Dublin's most successful unsigned acts, having played support to bands such as Ocean Colour Scene, Elbow, Powderfinger, Haven, Turn, The Frames and David Kitt, winning the prestigious UK In The City competition in 2000 and cracking the top 30 earlier this year, including a two-week stint at the top of the Tower chart, with the release of their 'Singular Death Of Privacy' single.
Their sendoff gig is to take place in Whelan's on Thursday 28th November.
Brando's other remaining dates include: Gara Vogue, Sligo (November 14th) and Cuba, Galway (20).
