They have emerged over the past year as one of the brightest new outfits in Ireland ó so it is gratifying to see them take the Song of the Year accolade
Picturre This, the bright young outfit from Athy in Co. Kildare, have lifted the Choice Song of the Year prize for ’Take My Hand’.
The song is their signature tune – so far. It was released originally in 2015 and became the band’s biggest hit to date, peaking at No.21 in the Irish charts. However, in many ways, that i deceptive. The video for the track has gone on to amass well over 2 million views on YouTube alone. And their Picture This EP, released in 2016, went straight to No.1 in Ireland. Meanwhile, the band have turned into a national phenomenon, filling venues and generally creating the kind of excitement reserved for those outfits that are likely to go all the way. They appeared on the front cover of Hot Press for the first time in the summer of 2016.
Reports from the US suggest that the band – comprising Ryan Hennessy and Jimmy Rainsford – have begun to capture hearts and minds there too, so it is all good. Their momentum will certainly be helped by this accolade and the increased exposure and recognition that will follow.
“They are the real thing,” Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said. “They are real musicians, who have a very special way with a pop song. They know the value of a good melody, of harmonies and of the kind of tunefulness that makes for irresistible pop. ‘Take My Hand’ was a fantastic first single, so it really deserves the Song of the Year accolade. But this is only the start for Picture This. Long may their rise continue."
