Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young Volumes 2 and 3 to be released

Two new albums, Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young, Volume 2 - Out of the Blue and Volume 3 - Into the Black, featuring covers of Neil Young's songs, are set for release on November 6.

Proceeds from the records will benefit The Bridge School, a nonprofit founded by Neil and Pegi Young to serve individuals with severe speech and physical impairments. All participating artists donated their recordings in support of the organisation's mission.

Two songs previewing the records were also shared, including My Morning Jacket's cover of 'Like a Hurricane', featuring The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and a cover of 'Barstool Blues' with Modest Mouse and Califone.

Also on the albums are two previously-released tracks: King Princess's cover of 'Helpless' and Draco Rosa's cover of 'After the Gold Rush'.

The tracklists also feature contributions from Lucinda Williams, Ann Wilson, Peter Frampton and others.

"We were so honoured to get to be at several of the Bridge School Benefit concerts in the past, and we are so honoured to once again get to be a part of raising funds for this amazing school, with these amazing songs of Neil Young," said My Morning Jacket's Jim James.

Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock also added:

"Getting to do a cover of one of Neil's songs on a project like this matters both because it gets to be helpful for an important cause like The Bridge School, and because it's actually attached to the person whose song we are covering. It's really... well, it's a stressful honor. The stakes seem a little higher. I like that."

Founded in 1986, The Bridge School is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Across its time, the organisation has "helped transform the lives of thousands of individuals ... while helping shape the fields of augmentative and alternative communication and assistive technology through innovative education, research and professional development," according to a statement.

"These Heart of Gold tribute albums are a meaningful reminder of the incredible community that has supported our mission for so many years," the organisation shared. "We know that music has an extraordinary ability to connect us, inspire us and bring people together for a greater purpose."
