Pete Cummins releases anti-war song
Fleadh Cowboy Pete Cummins lends his weight to the Irish anti-war movement with the release of ‘Flowers In Baghdad’, a reference to the Iraqi blogger Salam Pax who wrote about the lack of colour in the capital since the American invasion.
It’s the first taster from his new album, The Brilliant Architect, and is available for free download from www.myspace/petecumminsfleadhcowboy
Also packing a considerable lyrical punch is Airspace’s tribute to George Best, ‘The Conjuror’. The tune is the handiwork Belfast lads Jimmy Brown and Alyn Mearns who are now based in South Carolina and have been working recently with REM and White Stripes man John Hampton.
Endorsed by Bestie’s sister Barbara McNarry, the single’s lyrics were co-written by Ulster poet Adrian Rice.
Sticking with expats, Kells drummer Cormac Breslin has resurfaced in a Los Angeles-based outfit called Buckfast.
Equal parts Pixies, Stone Roses and – whisper it! – U2, they’re regulars at Hollywood hotspots like The Viper Room and will be heading to Ireland soon in support of their eponymous debut album.
