Paddy Hanna announces the release of his upcoming album, Oylegate
Hanna has been releasing music since 2014, and is set to drop his fifth album.
Irish musician Paddy Hanna has announced his upcoming album Oylegate – out April 11.
He also released the new song ‘Oylegate Station' as his lead single, accompanied by a music video directed by Eoghan O'Brien. His album launch will be in Dublin at Whelans on April 17.
Oylegate explores the highs and lows of parenthood through a retro-pop lens. Hanna was largely influenced by Soviet-era films. While writing the album, he would watch movies such as Solaris, and credits their grim existentialism as a shaping force of his record.
“Low rent fuel, caffeine of all shapes, the midpoint of hope and despair, engine still running at Oylegate Station,” Hanna says of the new track.
Working with producer Daniel Fox, he requested that the album sound like “sweet, sweet caramel" to offset moments of cold contemplation.
"One advantage of being an ‘artist’s artist’ is that you never have to worry about being creatively different between albums. There's real freedom in doing whatever you want and not being judged for it. And even if you are judged, who gives a shit?" he said.
