'Once' soundtrack climbs the US charts
Things just keep getting better for Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova with the Once soundtrack jumping 24 places to number seven in this week’s Billboard American Album Chart.
That’s a 143% increase on the previous week’s sales, fueled not just by the post-Oscars afterglow, but also fast rotation on the likes of VH1 who’ve been playing the ‘Falling Slowly’ promo six times a day.
“We do our scheduling a week ahead of time, so five days before the Oscars happened, we had to make our decision,” reveals VH1’s Rick Krim. “We figured no matter what, their performance was going to be stunning and people would be interested. It worked in our favour.”
And Glen and Mar’s it seems. The Once soundtrack has also leapfrogged over the likes of Radiohead and The Eagles to claim number one spot on the Billboard Independent Album chart, while ‘Falling Slowly’ has been downloaded 14,000 times over the past seven days – an increase of 359%.
Overall, Once has sold 428,000 copies in the States so far, with a sell-out tour that includes major venues like New York’s Radio City Music Hall likely to propel it even higher. It looks like Mrs. Hansard will soon have some more gongs to put next to her Glen’s Oscar.
