'Once' Oscar nomination in doubt
Questions have been raised over the eligibility of a song from John Carney's 'Once' for the Oscars.
Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova's song 'Falling Slowly' has been nominated for best original song, however doubts have now been raised over whether it was specifically written for Once, as required by Academy rules.
The song appeared on Hansard and Irglova's 2006 album The Swell Season and was also re-recorded for the Frames' album The Cost in the same year. However, the Academy officials will focus on whether the song is 'the result of a creative interaction between the filmmaker(s) and the composer(s) or songwriter(s) who have been engaged to work directly on the film.'
Officials are meeting today and a decision on the matter is expected shortly after their deliberations conclude.
