O Baby
Siouxsie And The Banshees: O Baby (Polydor)
Siouxsie And The Banshees: O Baby (Polydor); Adam Ant: Wonderful (EMI)
Survivors of the post-punk war return in guises you wouldn’t necessarily expect. Siouxsie’s obviously been affected by her French exile since ‘O Baby’ takes a riff not utterly unrelated to ‘Love Cats’ and swathes it in Gauloises. Only problem is that this obvious summer single should never have been released amid the January chills. As for the long dormant Adam Ant, he ventures into an acoustic soft-rock area more associated with the likes of Prefab Sprout but wins out because he can still substitute pop star buoyancy for singer-songwriter broodiness.
