Not missing The Point
Rumours that The Point theatre is to close down have been quashed by the venue’s general manager, Cormac Rennick.
Speaking to Hotpress.com, Rennick revealed that bookings were in place for well into 2004.
"The future of The Point, in the short term, is not in jeopardy. There’s been all sorts of wild speculation – like the site’s going to be turned into a supermarket or somehing – but that’s not the case", he says.
As for the longer term, Rennick adds "If a larger venue was to be built in Dublin, The Point may have to reconsider its future."
The Point is situated at Dublin’s East Wall, an area that has been in a constant state of flux recently due to major redevelopments.
However, Rennick is positive in his stance, claiming that he is "looking forward to putting on many more shows."
These currently include Sophie Ellis Bextor, who has pencilled in an appearance for January 21st.
