No shortage of female music role models, says Florence!
Florence Welch (of Florence + the Machine) has dismissed the theory that there aren't enough female role models in music
Interviewed for the issue of Hot Press to be published tomorrow, Thursday March 11, the multi-award winning star says that, on the contrary, she had plenty of of female role models in music as a teenager – and still has!
“Shirley Manson (of Garbage) was my heroine for a while," Florence, who is scheduled to play Oxegen later this year tells Hot Press. "But when Tragic Kingdom came out I switched my allegiance to Gwen Stefani. I also love Grace Slick, Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks… oh my God, I’d probably pass out if I met Stevie! I danced on stage at the Secret Garden festival with Grace Jones, who’s another amazing woman.”
Florence also tells Hot Press about collaborating with Dizzee Rascal, what she said to Mel B, and the “best present ever” she got from David Byrne.
Read the full Hot Press interview tomorrow, with Florence herself as the cover star!
