Nicky Byrne lands 2fm morning show gig
Having impressed last year with his Ryan Tubridy fill-ins and subsequent pilots, former Westlife man Nicky Byrne is to takeover the weekday 11am – 2pm slot on 2fm.
Part of a concerted effort by the national broadcaster to attract a younger audience, he’ll be joined by an as yet unnamed female presenter.
Like his former band mate Kian Egan, the 35-year-old has been eager to carve out a media career since hanging up his mic with hosting jobs on RTÉ TV’s Football’s Next Star and The Hit plus appearances on the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 presenting the Irish votes and Strictly Come Dancing.
It’s a major coup for the man entrusted with reviving 2fm’s fortunes, Dan Healy, who’s already unveiled Republic Of Telly stars Bernard O’Shea and Jennifer Maguire and former Phantom 105.2 star Keith Walsh as the new breakfast crew.
