Nick Drake The Making Of Five Leaves Left box set to be released tomorrow
The Making Of Five Leaves Left will be out Friday.
A new box set featuring over 30 of Nick Drake's unreleased outtakes, is set to release July 25.
The Making Of Five Leaves Left, approved by Drake's sister Gabrielle, has been in the works for nine years. It comes in CD and LP formats and will be available on streaming platforms.
The project aims to "tell the story of how Nick Drake’s debut album came to be released on Island Records in July 1969," according to a statement.
Each box set will contain four CDs or LPs and a 60-page book by Neil Storey in collaboration with Richard Morton-Jack, author of Drake's biography Nick Drake: The Life.
Drake signed to Island Records at 20-years-old while attending the University of Cambridge. He released three albums in his lifetime Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter and Pink Moon.
At the age of 26, Drake died of an overdose of antidepressants. His music received critical acclaim and wider recognition after his death.
The first three discs contain studio sessions and other unreleased content while the last discs contains Five Leaves Left "just as Joe and John sequenced it," according to a statement.
“I suspect I got the very first copy," said Drake's sister Gabrielle. "Nick must’ve had that moment of seeing himself on the cover, his music inside, and, it is so typical of Nick because all he said was, ‘Well... there you are.’ As I’ve said many times, he really was a man of few words.”
The box set is now available for pre-order here and can be pre-saved on digital here.
