Nice Burke if you can get it
Solomon Burke announces first ever Irish date in Vicar St this February
The soulman that other soulmen call the Guv'nor, Solomon Burke, makes his Dublin debut on February 9 at Vicar St.
The Pennsylvanian notched up his first million-seller aged 14 in 1954 with 'Christmas Presents From Heaven', and during the '60s was often to be found on the same bills as Otis Redding and Sam & Dave.
After a period of relative inactivity, Burke returned to the fray this year with Don't Give Up On Me, a star-studded affair that features guest appearances by Tom Waits, Van Morrison, Brian Wilson, Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan.
"It's been a blessing," he tells Hotpress. "These writers are just unbelievable. To have these guys think enough of me to even consider writing a song for me would be amazing. To have an entire album's worth of the stuff. It just totally blows my mind!"
