Never Again: 'March For Savita' photos
Thousands of people turned out for the event on Saturday...
Saturday afternoon saw thousands of protestors march from the Garden of Remembrance to the Dáil, expressing anger at the Irish Government following the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar last month.
The 31-year-old died on October 28 in Galway University Hospital. Though it was established she was miscarrying her baby, Savita was denied the abortion that may have saved her life, and told, 'This is a Catholic country'.
Protestors gathered outside the Dáil, holding candles, and dressed in white, the traditional colour of mourning in India. Here, they urged the Government to legislate on abortion. Though the Supreme Court ruled that abortion should be availble when a mother's life is in danger – following the infamous X Case a staggering 20 years ago – no subsequent government has implemented legislation on the issue.
