The MTV Video Music Awards took place last night in New York's UBS Arena.
The awards celebrated rock legend Ozzy Osbourne who passed away in July this year.
Yungblud, along with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, paid homage to the 'prince of darkness' by playing Black Sabbath's most iconic tunes such as 'Mama I'm Coming Home'.
Some of the biggest names in music attended the event including winners on the night: Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Sabrina Carpenter.
These three artists dominated the awards, picking up a total of two trophies each in their respective categories.
Lady Gaga, the most nominated artist of the night with 12 in total, dashed off to attend her final 'Mayhem Ball' concert in Madison Square Garden after picking up her first reward of the night for artist of the year and dedicating it to her partner, Michael Polansky.
“I cannot begin to tell you what this means to me,” the singer said. “I hope as you navigate through the mayhem of daily life, you are reminded of the importance of the art of your life, that you can count on yourself and your simple skills to keep you whole.”
Gaga also picked up the award for best collaboration with Bruno Mars for 'Die with a smile'.
Ariana Grande took home both best pop video and video of the year, for
“This project is about the hard work that is healing all different kinds of trauma and coming home to our young selves and creating safety in our own lives, which is a lifelong process and a daily exercise," says Grande. “If you’re on that journey, please continue onward, because I promise there are brighter days ahead.”
Sabrina Carpenter won both album of the year for Short n' Sweet and best pop artist. She also drew attention as she took to the stage performing 'Tears' from her new album Mans Best Friend where she showed her support for the trans community.
Before heading into the second chorus, the 'Espresso' singer had Ru Paul's drag race stars and ballroom dancers come out on stage holding pickets signs saying "PROTECT THE DOLLS" and "IN TRANS WE TRUST", along with other supportive messages.
She later thanked those who performed with her while accepting her award for best album.
"I do want to say to my incredible cast and dancers and my queens on stage with me tonight" said Carpenter, "This world, as we all know, can be so full of criticism and discrimination and negativity, so to get to be part of something – so often more than not – that is something that can bring you light, make you smile, make you dance, and make you feel like the world is your oyster, I'm so grateful to do that."
Other performances included: Tate Mcrae, Doja Cat and Katseye, who took home the award for Push Performance.
Legacy artists also took centre stage. Mariah Carey took home the video vanguard award, Ricky Martin taking the Latin Icon award and Busta Rhymes receiving the MTV rock the bells visionary award.
