Gig promoters MCD have mounted a legal challenge to prevent the Rolling Stones concert from taking place in Dublin.
As previously announced on hotpress.com, the show is set for the Phoenix Park on Friday August 18.
But at the time of going to press there was still some uncertainity surrounding the details of the date, with promoters MCD mounting a High Court challenge to the decision of the Office of Public Works to give the green light to rivals, Aiken Promotions, to run what promises to be the summer’s biggest outdoor gig.
At a hearing last Monday, January 9, the court delayed a final decision on the issues raised by MCD. However, according to legal sources, it seems likely that the event will go ahead as originally planned.
Hot Press understands that the Rolling Stones have committed to Aiken Promotions in writing as the promoters of the Dublin leg of their A Bigger Bang world tour, and that this was the key factor in the OPW’s decision.
“It’s extraordinary,” one leading UK agent tells Hot Press. “It’s as if MCD are trying to help Aiken’s to sell tickets. No other gig on the tour has generated anything like this level of publicity. I think it’s a guaranteed sell-out now.”
