Mary Stokes Band announce international release of Hometown Blues
The album launch will be at Whelan's, Dublin, on July 31 as part of the Dublin Brass, Roots and Blues Festival
Irish blues ensemble the Mary Stokes Band have announced the international release of Hometown Blues, a newly remastered acoustic album blending original compositions with lesser-known traditional blues tracks.
Hometown Blues will have an official launch performance on July 31 at Whelan’s in Dublin alongside special guest performances from Aondotrio on Horns and vocal group The Queen Bees.
The Mary Stokes Band's latest release marks a return to the band’s early acoustic roots and features special guests, fresh material and deep emotional resonance, according to a statement from the group.
Available exclusively on Bandcamp, Hometown Blues includes songs chosen to convey their "understanding of Blues and the depth of emotion and connection that music has for us.”
The project was partly inspired by a conversation with American blues musician Taj Mahal during a Hot Press HQ gig many years ago. “Taj suggested that it might be of value to engage our Irishness in our Blues,” says Mary Stokes, “and so, we took that lead in many of these songs.”
Led by vocalist Mary Stokes and harmonica player Brian Palm, the band also features acclaimed guitarist Sarah Michelle.
They are set to appear at the Howth Blues and Roots Festival on August 10, performing in the Women of the Blues showcase at the Summit Inn alongside artists Gráinne Duffy and Bree Harris.
Hometown Blues is available now for download or to order on a special edition CD on Bandcamp.
