Mail bonding!
U2, Rory Gallagher, Van Morrison and Phil Lynott go postal this month as a new set of Irish commemorative postage stamps is released - and Hot Press get into the act with an also-commemorative four-cover special to match. As the man said, save 'em, swop 'em, collect 'em all
And you thought U2 couldn't be licked! October 17 finds Bono and the lads joining Rory Gallagher, Van Morrison and Phil Lynott on a new set of Irish 41 and 57-cent stamps.
Says Vivian Harvey, Manager of Irish Stamps: "Ireland has produced many of rock's greatest performers. But what links these four is their affinity with live audiences. On stage they reveal an incomparable ability to communicate with their fans.
"Lynott and Gallagher are still remembered for this talent. Today the dynamic stage presence of Morrison and U2 command worldwide attention when they perform. Their fans will want to have these new stamps."
With collectors in mind, An Post has prepared a special first-day cover; mini-sheet featuring all four stamps; individual mini sheets; and four slip cases, costing 10 each, housing both the cover and the sheets.
If you don't live in Ireland, fear not, because they can also be ordered from www.irishstamps.ie
The even better news is that the October 23 issue of Hot Press will have four different covers, each depicting one of the stamps. We're also profiling the acts in question and interviewing their celebrity fans. Rocktastic or what?
