Madonna and Charli XCX release new song 'Danceteria Afterhours'

Madonna and Charli XCX have shared a new track, 'Danceteria Afterhours', channeling the spirit of Madonna's original single 'Danceteria'.

Produced by Madonna, Andrew Watt, Cirkut and Stuart Price, the collaboration "is a celebration of the fearless beginnings and influences that shaped each artist's singular paths," according to a press release.

The release follows Madonna and Charli's CLUB CONFESSIONS party with Saint Laurent during Paris Fashion Week, and a series of social media exchanges that fueled speculation about a potential musical collaboration.

'Danceteria' is the latest single from Madonna's album Confessions II, which debuted at No. 2 on the Official Irish Albums Chart, narrowly kept from the No. 1 spot by Olivia Rodrigo's you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.

Confessions II marked Madonna's 20th Top 10 album appearance in Ireland.

The record "reinforces Madonna's enduring belief that dance music is far from superficial: the dance floor is a lifeline, a place for escapism, connection and survival," according to a statement.

Madonna is set to open the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) this Sunday with her first performance at the show in 23 years. This will also mark her fifth performance at the VMAs - more than any other artist in the show's history.

She leads the awards this year with 13 nominations, including artist of the year, video of the year for Confessions II - The Film, song of the year and best collaboration for 'Bring Your Love' with Sabrina Carpenter, and more.

Also in the running for artist of the year are Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Morgan Wallen, Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift.

Charli is also competing for best pop with 'SS26'.

Earlier this month, the electropop artist announced a show in Dublin on February 13, 2027, as part of her upcoming tour of Europe, the UK and North America. She'll be joined by special guest Audrey Hobert.

She released her latest album Music, Fashion, Film on July 24. The record entered high on the Official Irish Albums Chart as the top new entry, securing a spot inside the Top 10.
