LISTEN: U2 say 'thank you' to TXFM on their final day
Alternative radio station TXFM will cease broadcasting as of today, October 26.
The radio station, which was the smallest commercial station in Dublin with a listenership of 19,000, had been struggling since before 2014, when it rebranded to become Phantom 105.2.
Founded in 1996 as a pirate radio station, the station had a strong emphasis on playing music from local artists and has run many specialist shows dedicated to a specific genre of rock or to premiering new Irish and international acts.
Tributes have been pouring in for the radio station with the likes of Glenn Hansard, All Tvvins, and James Vincent McMorrow all taking to Twitter to voice their regret that the station will cease to be.
Most notably, U2 made a short 20 second clip offering their thanks for all the work that TXFM has done for local music. You can listen to the clip here:
