Richard D James' first new track in 13 years under his famous electronic moniker is now with us.
The catchily-title 'minipops 67 [120.2][source field mix]' is our first taste of what's to come from the long-awaited new album from Aphex Twin.
Picking up where the likes of 'Windowlicker' and 'Girl/Boy Song' left off, we get snatches of samples and sonic bursts forming melodies, elliptical but enticing drums and Richard D James' own vocals. A thrill ride from start to finish, if a slightly '90s sounding one.
Listen to it below.
Meanwhile, Syro is due to be released September 19. Talking to Rolling Stone recently, James says it was his fans' Kickstarter campaign to buy his "lost" Caustic Window album that convinced him that people wanted new music and that he should give it to them. When asked how he feels about his new work, he replied: "Horny. I'm feeling really horny about it. And very smug."
So that's nice.
