Listen: Neil Young joins Pipeline Protest with new song 'Indian Givers'
The legendary folk singer shows his opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline and hits out at "big money" in his new song.
'Indian Givers' is a play on words, referring to the fact that the pipeline will carve through Native American territory, and also referring to the well-known American phrase which means giving a gift then later asking for it back.
The music video for the song shows footage from recent protests and clips of the 70-year-old singer/songwriter driving in his car.
The lyrics seem to have been written in the past few weeks, since they mention by name Native American protester Dale "Happy" American Horse Jr., who was arrested in August after chaining himself to a large backhoe to prevent digging for the pipeline.
In 2014, Young advocated against the Keystone XL pipeline with the song "Who's Gonna Stand Up?" on his Storytone album. He linked with Willie Nelson that year for a concert in Nebraska against the expansion.
